Introducing Open Practice Project Spaces

Open education is rarely as simple as finding a free textbook.

The real work happens in the messy middle: defining the project, searching for resources, evaluating what fits, working through licensing and ethical questions, designing learning experiences, coordinating collaborators, and planning how the work will continue over time.

Open Practice Project Spaces, or OPPS, is a free, guided workspace designed to support that work.

OPPS walks educators, instructional designers, librarians, graduate students, and collaborators through six phases of open practice. As you work, you can organize resources in an OER Tracker, document decisions, plan for learner participation, map stakeholders, and build a sustainability plan.

A live Open Practice Sentence develops as your project takes shape, helping you explain what you are building and why it matters. Your work also feeds into a portfolio that can be exported as a Word document, Excel workbook, or PDF.

OPPS includes real-time collaboration, private and public sharing options, and a community Garden where people can discover, favorite, offer feedback on, and remix projects with attribution.

The workspace is currently in beta, which means it is ready to be used, explored, questioned, and improved.

I’m looking for brave early participants who are willing to bring a real project into the space and share honest feedback about what feels useful, confusing, missing, or unexpectedly supportive.

You do not need to be an OER expert. You only need a project, an idea, or a question you are willing to bring with you.
